The Pivot
In typical Eastern Shore style… the weather for Alexa & RJ’s Spring Engagement session was chilly and drenched. Because of the storm that threatened to ruin the day, we had to pivot our plans to a covered location. Thankfully the amazing ladies over at the Hyatt Chesapeake in Cambridge allowed us to use their gorgeous property for the Engagement session so that Alexa could still have the waterfront look she wanted…. thus saving the day. And my oh my was it a stunning spot for the shoot. The waterfront held gray-blue waters matching the sky, and extended has a walkway to the breakwater pavilion which is perfect for a stroll with the one you love most. RJ and Alexa’s sweet love for each was on full display at this iconic Eastern Shore setting!
The Winners
Alexa and RJ are the winners of the “Yay Your Engaged” giveaway that I hosted on Instagram along with some other fabulous Eastern Shore vendors this past Winter (see vendors listed below). RJ entered for Alexa… because well he absolutely adores her and knew she would love it. When he told Alexa what he had done, and that his name was drawn as the winner, he said: “she jumped up and down like a little kid on Christmas.” That’s when I knew we had ended up with a dream of a couple to share these gifts with. It’s been so fun getting to know Alexa (aka Lex) through her adorable Fashion and DIY blog: All Things Pretty & Pink (brides be sure to check out her recent

How did you two meet?
RJ and I met in Salisbury, MD while attending college at Salisbury University. I had transferred to Salisbury my sophomore year and was introduced to him through our roommates. At the time, he was dating someone. Therefore, he was just that, “really cute guy” every girl talked about. Months later, I got wind he was single. He decided to spend the night out with us and that was when we really hit it off. We danced and laughed and before dropping me off that night, cuddled in the back of a friend’s pick up truck. I remember getting that butterfly feeling in my stomach and thinking, “I could really get used to this”.
When did you know that this was the love of your life?
It was during a family vacation to Marco Island, FL back in 2011. Rj and I went for a walk on the beach during sunset and then went to relax in the hot tub. He still hadn’t said the “words” yet. I remember him turning to me and saying, “I love you Lex” and I immediately turned to mush.
What is your proposal story?
12.29.2016: It was a Wednesday night; Rj called and told me to take off work the next day. I didn’t think too much of it because it was Christmas week and I was contemplating using a vacation day any way. He said he wanted to get to the outlets across the bridge to make some returns and do some shopping, naturally, I was all for it. After an hour or so at the outlets, he suggested we stop in St. Michaels. He knows I love the Christmas shop in town and sold me on the idea that everything would be half off. We had some lunch and got back in the car to head out of town when he turned around and said, “we didn’t even see the water”. We turned the car around and went to the Inn at Perry Cabin. He was extra quiet and nervous, so at this point, I suspected something but wasn’t 100% sold. We went to sit on the chairs but they had been wet from the day before, so I had suggested the pagoda. His reply was, no we can’t, they’re people in there. I turned to look for the, “people” (our family) and when I turned back around, he was down on one knee. He said, “I’ll love you forever….” and immediately it was water works, I said, “YES!!!” I then realized that while I had been so exited to say yes, he never really asked me to marry him…. so we tried it again and it was perfect. Our families (and bulldog) came out of hiding and took tons of pictures. The waitress from inside came out with a tray of champagne explaining, “I saw everything….it was beautiful!” I truly couldn’t have imagined it any other way. I am so lucky and blessed to be marrying my best friend.
